Review of the 2030 Agenda by the federal government

The Federal Council is committed to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at both national and international levels. With the aid of a baseline assessment, the federal government is currently investigating where Switzerland stands with reference to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their 169 targets. The baseline assessment will be completed by the end of 2017. For each of these 169 targets, the assessment demonstrates which goals are already being pursued, with which indicators progress can be assessed, and which existing measures of the federal government contribute already to meet the targets. In addition, the role of the cantons and the communes is outlined, and examples of contributions from non-state actors are included. Finally, the assessment shows where Switzerland needs to take further action, where opportunities and chances exist, and in which areas questions concerning coherence arise, e.g. conflicts of objectives, trade-offs, synergies between various measures.

Online consultation to supplement the federal government's assessment

An online consultation on this baseline assessment is conducted between 26 June and 25 August 2017. The consultation will enable representatives of business, civil society and academia both to present their assessments and to demonstrate their own contribution to the attainment of the SDGs. The results of the consultation will feed into the drafting of the 2018 Swiss country report for the UN. The country report is an international review mechanism on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, by means of which governments are supposed to keep their citizens and parliaments informed about the implementation status of the 2030 Agenda. The online consultation is aimed primarily at institutional representatives of business and civil society, companies, academic institutions and political parties.
