25.03.2024 – developments in the region
The Embassy of Switzerland to Lebanon and Syria monitors closely the developments in the region.
The development of the situation is uncertain. Tensions are high and a significant deterioration of the security situation in Lebanon can occur at any time. Therefore, tourist and non-essential travel to Lebanon are not advised.
For Swiss citizens: Please observe the FDFA's travel advice (in German, French and Italian) and also inform yourself independently about the current situation and follow the instructions of the local authorities. The decision to leave a crisis region is an individual decision. It is made voluntarily, at your own risk and at your own expense. If you decide to leave the country, use available commercial transportation. Individual airlines have reduced or suspended their flights to Lebanon, information can be obtained from the airlines.
The Swiss Embassy in Beirut is open and continues to provide its usual services and assistance. However, in the event of a deterioration of the situation, the Swiss Embassy in Beirut has only limited capacity to provide services or emergency assistance.
In order to ensure communication, it is important that you keep your contact and travel data up-to-date on Travel Admin App or at the Swiss representation where you are registered. In case of emergency, please contact the FDFA helpline: Tel. +41 800 24 7 365 or 0 800 24 7 365.
