“Relations between Albania and Switzerland are excellent. Switzerland is a loyal partner of Albania since 1992. These relations are based on the friendship, mutual respect and generosity of our two peoples”, stressed the Speaker of Parliament Gramoz Ruçi.

Mr. Ruçi commended Switzerland’s support for the development and democratisation of Albania, and for the support offered to the Albanian community in Switzerland in integrating into their host country and in preserving their language and national culture. He also praised the Swiss Cooperation Strategy for the period 2014-2017 and 2018-2022 and considered them the “modus operandi” of the Swiss cooperation, stressing the flexibility of this strategy in meeting the strategic needs of Albania’s development. Meanwhile, he also said that economic cooperation can and must be stronger, thus beter reflecting the potential of both countries.

“It is a honour for me to be received by the Speaker of Parliament: this institution is of utmost importance for a democratic country. That is why we are strengthening cooperation with Albania’s parliament through a project together with the OSCE and the National Democratic Institute (NDI)”, said Swiss Ambassador Adrian Maître.

Ambassador Maître stressed that one of the aims of Swiss support in Albania is to make institutions more effective.

During the meeting both parties discussed the latest Swiss initiative for the Albanian parliament, the PACEP project that has started its work to strengthen  the Parliament’s functions in the next four years. Swiss support will go towards improving the representative, legislative and supervisory work of the Parliament.

The PACEP project is part of the Swiss Cooperation Strategy in Albania 2018-2021. It is the first time that Swiss support extends to the highest legislative body in the country. Funding comes from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, SDC.
