Direct action Chad WASH Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)
Chad hosts over 565’000 refugees from the recent crisis in Sudan, adding to the 595’000 refugees already residing in the country. Acces to safe drinking water is one of the biggest challenges for the Humanitarian actors. SDC provides material to Médécins sans frontiers. for analysing potential water sources and distributing the drinking water obtained. Background |
Chad hosts the largest number of people fleeing violence in Sudan, from before and as a result of the recent crisis. Since April 2023, 565’000 refugees and 145’000 returnees crossed the border, adding to the 595’000 refugees, who were in Chad already before. One of the urgent needs is the provision of drinking water in the refugee camps and with the host communities. The humanitarian agencies are desperately looking to improve the water distribution systems and to find additional wells, which are able to provide additional water in quality and quantity. |
Objectives | Provide urgently needed material to improve access to and distribution of drinking water and to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases. |
Target groups | Refugees and host communities get additional water sources in good quality. |
Medium-term outcomes | Provide more safe drinking water in the east of Chad both for the newly arrived refugees population as well as the host communities. |
Results |
Expected results: Material for the development and analysis of additional water sources and for the distribution of this water to refugees and host communities is provided via MSF. |
