Implementation of accounting and auditing standards

Particularly in times of economic downturn, the existence of transparent framework conditions is crucial to the growth of private enterprise. SECO has thus approved a CHF 10 million project supporting the implementation of the accounting and auditing standards for businesses in Poland.

One focal point of the programme is the development of specialist knowledge. For example, courses on International Standards on Auditing (ISA) und International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) were offered for authorities and industry associations. © SECO

The project, with CHF 10 million in support, is helping to create a competitive market for the auditing business in Poland, with high-quality testing, and to meet other requirements set out in EU company law. Specifically, this means that over the next four years public supervision of statutory auditors will be tightened, a quality assurance system will be set up, and the relevant authorities will receive training in the application of the established international standards.

The project with Poland forms part of a larger programme across several countries, implemented by the World Bank, and which also seeks to promote cooperation in accounting and auditing with the new EU countries. Apart from the project in Poland, SECO is also supporting similar measures for the application of transparent accounting and auditing standards in Latvia, Estonia and Slovenia.
