Press releases, 19.03.2018

CAIRO, Egypt – Swiss-American author R. James Breiding will visit Egypt between 18 – 23 March to launch the Arabic edition of his book Swiss Made - "The Untold Story behind Switzerland’s success", which explores factors that have made Switzerland globally competitive across a wide range of industries despite its possession of few natural resources.

Originally published in the United Kingdom by Profile Books Ltd. in 2013, "Swiss Made" has been translated into French, German, Chinese and Japanese, and is now offered by 50 Swiss embassies worldwide as a diplomatic gift. The Arabic edition was published in Geneva in November 2017 by John McCarthy Publishing Ltd with a translation from English to Arabic by Besma Jouini. The Arabic edition of "Swiss-Made" was sponsored by Credit Suisse, SICPA, Hotel Beau-Rivage (Geneva), Victorinox, and m3 Real Estate.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to bring my "Swiss Made" book to Egypt in an Arabic language edition,” said R. James Breiding.

Breiding and McCarthy will visit Cairo and Alexandria during the trip to Egypt. In Cairo, Breiding will hold a book signing event at Diwan Bookstore in Zamalek neighborhood, and will deliver two lectures about the book, one at the American University in Cairo and one at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. In Alexandria, they will be hosted by the Egyptian Junior Business Association.

“Many people wonder how Switzerland has managed to hold its Number 1 ranking on the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Index for the past nine years in a row. "Swiss Made" is a book that seeks to illuminate readers with answers to this question. We are delighted to host Mr. Breiding and Mr. McCarthy in Cairo and Alexandria, where "Swiss Made" will now be accessible to Arabic-speakers both in Egypt and across the world,” said Paul Garnier, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Egypt.

Breiding is a graduate of IMD Lausanne and the Harvard Kennedy School. He has been selected as a fellow by Harvard University's Center for International Development in connection with his research. His work has been widely published in international publications such as the Economist, the Financial Times, and the Wall Street Journal. Breiding has occupied senior management posts at various firms including Price Waterhouse Coopers and Templeton Investment. He is a founder of Naissance Capital, a Swiss investment firm.

Breiding is currently working on his new book "Too Small to Fail" about how some small countries outperform larger ones. The book is set to be published by Harper Collins later this year.
