Since the Gotthard Basis Tunnel was inaugurated on the 1st June being the longest and deepest tunnel in the world, Switzerland and other countries have been celebrating this mammoth-project. Our embassy has printed a mobile exhibition about the tunnel for this occasion, which has been shown in Szentgotthárd and Tata, and now, on the 14th July, has opened in Budapest. It can be seen in the Abraham Ganz Museum in the Bem József street 20 until the 28th September.
The location for the exhibition has been chosen very consciously: Abraham Ganz was a pioneer of railway engineering and a Swiss citizen who lived and worked in Hungary. His merits are a beautiful example of the work of Swiss who live abroad. 100 years ago, an organization was found, with the sole aim to help Swiss citizens living abroad. Filippo Lombardi, councilor of states from Ticino is deputy-president of the organization and spoke as our guest of honor after Dávid Vitézy, the director of the museum and ambassador Jean-François Paroz about the courage of people, who – even centuries ago – have dared to go out looking for their fortune in the big wide world and have accomplished great things.
