We call on all sides to spare no effort to de-escalate, exercise restraint and refrain from excessive use of force and incitement to violence. We urge the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to ensure that law enforcement agencies act in strict compliance with human rights obligations. Tajik authorities must respect freedom of speech and access to information, including access to the internet and the right to peaceful protests. The cause of violence in recent protests are to be investigated and those responsible held to account.
We deeply regret the loss of life and express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims. In conclusion, we encourage all to engage in good-faith communication and to de-escalate the situation.
