Welcome by the Ambassador
It gives me great pleasure to warmly welcome you to the Embassy of Switzerland to Malawi.
The bilateral relations between Switzerland and Malawi, which will reach a 54 year milestone in 2020, stretches back to the 1930s when Swiss traders came to the country which was then a British Protectorate of Nyasaland. When the country declared its independence in 1964, Switzerland immediately recognised the new Republic of Malawi. The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1966.
I strongly believe that increased success of the cooperation programmes and the political engagement between our two countries will contribute even further to consolidate the mutual knowledge between both peoples and will lend a new dynamism and intensification of the cultural, commercial and economic ties.
Among the factors that has underpinned the dynamism of our bilateral relations, if not the most important, is undoubtedly the Swiss community in Malawi, to whom I would like to express a particular word of appreciation and recognition as a continued example of hard-work and success that have been key to foster and enhance Switzerland’s name in the region.
I count on your support and invite you to our Facebook Page for further dialogue and interaction that will surely enable us to provide a better public service to you.
Ambassador of Switzerland to Zimbabwe, Malawi and Zambia.
