Swiss contribution of CHF 5.7 million to support earthquake reconstruction efforts in Nepal

The Government of Switzerland has agreed to provide a total of CHF 5.7 million (equivalent NPR. 598.5 million) to Government of Nepal (GoN) to support in its earthquake reconstruction efforts through Decentralized Rural Infrastructure and Livelihood Project (DRILP) Phase III.

Out of the total grant, CHF 3.9 million will be used as a technical assistance for reconstruction of approximately 450 kms of damaged roads in earthquake affected districts, while CHF 1.8 million will be used to rehabilitate 200 kms of damaged trails in Gorkha and Dolakha districts. In addition, the Asian Development Bank will also contribute US $ 50 million (equivalent NPR. 5.25 billion) for the reconstruction of damaged roads through Emergency Earthquake Assistance Project (EEAP).

The Agreement to this effect were signed and exchanged between H.E. Dr. Urs Herren, Ambassador, the Embassy of Switzerland in Nepal and Mr. Baikuntha Aryal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance on behalf of their respective governments on 27th April 2016.

The Government of Nepal has expressed its sincere appreciation to the Government of Switzerland for this grant assistance and for continued support to the socio-economic development of Nepal.
