Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis on official visit to Paris

Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis will pay an official visit to Paris on 9 and 10 March. The head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) will travel to Paris at the invitation of Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs. The discussions will focus on bilateral and cross-border issues, European policy and current international events.

Also on the agenda will be the international community's efforts to stem the spread of the new coronavirus, COVID-19. The head of the FDFA will meet with the director of the French ministry's Crisis and Support Centre to thank him for his support in the recent repatriation of Swiss citizens from Wuhan. Mr Cassis will also meet with the head of the ministry's Centre for Analysis, Planning and Strategy.

Diplomatic, economic and cultural relations between Switzerland and France are thriving. France is Switzerland's fourth-largest trading partner, with the volume of trade worth CHF 29.4 billion in 2019. Switzerland is France's fourth biggest foreign investor. Swiss companies employ some 140,000 people in France, mainly in the border regions (Grand Est, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) and in the Île-de-France region.
