Contexte

Over the past 20 years the Peruvian government successfully supported the municipalities and their urban water utilities in the development of new infrastructure. Nevertheless, quality of service provision remains low and a long way from achieving the SDGs. In the light of the situation, Peru has launched modernization reforms. This programme supports the implementation of the reforms in two utilities. It is fully alligned with SECO's country strategy as well as Peru's priorities and a consistent continuation of SECO's strong engagement in the Peruvian urban water sector.

Objectifs

The overall objective of the programme is that the population in the program area benefits from sustainably provided basic water services. The objective shall be achieved through building critical water supply infrastructre, the reduction of water losses and improved economic management by the water utilities. Accordingly, the programme is structured along three components: A. Reduction of physical water losses and increased access to water services- B. Reduction of commercial water losses and economic management- C. Public awareness raising and sensitization.
