The Swiss supported "Property Tax Reform" programme, assisted 44 municipalities in Serbia to register 100,000 new and taxable buildings in their local communities. These new tax entries will ensure higher own revenue for municipalities, and in this way increase their financial autonomy. Furthermore, local governments will improve dialogue with citizens on how the tax revenue should be used for public investments, so that the bond between citizens and local governments will become stronger.
On 28th August, an awarding ceremony will be organized where the Government of Switzerland will reward the five most successful municipalities for their efforts in this endeavor with a total amount of EUR 870,000.
