The OSCE Mission to Serbia launched its Local Government Fellowship on 1st February this year, in partnership with six municipalities. The initiative will enable eleven young women and men from Novi Pazar, Nova Varoš, Priboj, Prijepolje, Tutin, and Sjenica to gain professional experience in public administration and democratic governance by working with local institutions. This five-month project is implemented with the support of the governments of Switzerland and of Canada.

The participants were selected through merit-based recruitment and will work in a variety of professional fields including local economic development, finance, community, housing and transport affairs, and human resources, while also gaining valuable experience in the Mayor’s Office of the respective municipalities. Each local self-government unit has assigned a mentor to help the participants integrate into the work of each institution. Additional training, ranging from ethics and integrity to gender mainstreaming, will increase the Fellows’ understanding of how to implement these concepts at the local level.

Switzerland is providing its share of the support through the program “Learning Local Government in South West Serbia for Youth through LG Fellowships and Multi-Media outreach and Engagement" amounting to 45'000 EUR until end of August 2021.
