In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.

SDC funding to UNICEF emergency programmes in 5 underfunded emergency situations allows UNICEF to better plan its assistance programmes and proactively respond to situations as needed. Contributions to OCHA Field Operations in 2014

OCHA is responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure coherent response to emergencies and facilitates the work of operational humanitarian agencies in the field. SDC aims to support OCHA in delivering its core functions in humanitarian coordination, advocacy and policy development. Therefore, SDC seeks to provide support to OCHA field offices in relevant humanitarian contexts, in line with SDC geographic and thematic priorities.

La DDC contribue au programme Résilience de la FAO à hauteur de 6 millions de CHF, dans le but d'améliorer les conditions de vie des populations les plus vulnérables de Somalie. D'une durée de trois ans, ce programme est l'un des volets du programme global de la FAO en faveur de la Somalie. En s'appuyant sur des instruments de contrôle innovants, des mesures d'atténuation des risques et des partenariats solides, il vise à favoriser le passage de régions entières de l'assistance humanitaire au développement durable, y compris dans le sud et le centre du pays, où l'accès des acteurs humanitaires aux populations dans le besoin est fortement limité.

The aim of this intervention is to prevent violations against and increase protection for people in mixed migration flows in the HoA and Yemen region. It is a contribution to the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) with focus on two specific partial actions: I) supports activities on protection needs and awareness raising in Puntland, II) strengthens information and knowledge sharing on a regional level in the HoA.

Horn of Africa NGO Safety Programme

In Somalia and Kenya, implementing projects requires constant security analyses and information to access the beneficiaries and ensure the security of the implementing staff. By supporting NGO safety programmes in both countries SOC contributes to adequate analysis, advise and training allowing the operational NGOs to mitigate risks and improve access to beneficiaries, while benefiting itself from this information to strengthen its context knowledge and secure its own missions/operations.
