UNICEF Syr. WASH assistance to IDPs and host communities in Hassaka City

Progetto concluso

The conflict has been ruining the lives and Iivelihoods of millions. In addition, lt has disrupted power supplies, affecting in turn water services, forcing responsible technical staff of the water authorities to regularly run maintenance and operations of infrastructure of basic services. Safe drinking water, proper sanitation, and hygiene conditions have been negatively impacted, especially in the crowded collective shelters. This Intervention comes as a response to the assessment of Hassakeh City that indicates shortage in water supply as weIl as access to adequate hygiene and sanitation services for Internally displaced persons ( IDPs) and host communities (HC).

Contesto

According to the Ministry of Local Administration (MOLA's) estimates as of May 2013, 207.400 IDPs were reported as living in 65 collective shelters in Hassakeh Governorate. These shelters otten lack basic living standards and in need for repairs to ensure adequate water supply and sanitation to reduce the risk of disease outbreaks.
