Set in the Central Park of Khorog city, the Swiss supported international festival “The Roof of the World” will last for 3 days (26-28 July). The open-air festival aims to promote cultural exchange, and more than 15,000 local people and tourists are expected to visit the event.

There will be two centers of gravity in Khorog during these days: Khorog Central Park for musical and dancing performances and the Ismaili Center for an exhibition of paintings and artisans, documentary film screening, and a traditional food festival.

Besides musical and dancing performances, a series of master classes on performances of musical instruments will be organized for musicians, music critics and students.

Samandar Pulodov, Director of “Amesha Spenta” (the organizer) emphasizes the role of local volunteers who, thanks to their inexhaustible desire to organize and hold the festival, have helped the public organizations to celebrate and show the cultural identity and diversity of traditions of different peoples. In addition, he mentions: “The Festival contributes to the understanding of pluralism and tolerance between different people and cultural traditions of the region and the whole country. Through organizing such event, we can attract more tourists to the region thus to develop the country’s economy”,

This year, the festival is supported not only by the Swiss government but also by the US Embassy in Tajikistan, the Aga-Khan Music Initiative, Accelerate Prosperity and other local and foreign companies and organizations.
