On 1 and 2 August , FDFA State Secretary Pascale Baeriswyl made a visit at Thailand's invitation to Bangkok, where she represented Switzerland at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, attended the signing of a Swiss cooperation agreement with the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management, and met with high-ranking government representatives from Asia, Europe and North America. Before travelling to Thailand, Ms Baeriswyl visited Cambodia, where she attended the opening of the new Kantha Bopha Hospital heart clinic in Phnom Penh.

On 1 August 2019, on the margins of the 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Bangkok, Switzerland and the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) inked their intent to further develop cooperation and the exchange of expertise. The signing of the Memorandum followed a trilateral meeting between Switzerland’s State Secretary Pascale Baeriswyl, Thailand’s Permanent Secretary Busaya Mathelin and ASEAN’s Deputy Secretary General Hoang Anh Tuan.

Cooperation in counterterrorism, disaster preparedness and cyberspace can strengthen mutual trust in Asia, Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter said at the opening of the Asian Conference of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Seoul. The Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) said that on the basis of its experience and the instruments at its disposal, the OSCE can be a bridge for dialogue on security with Asia. Switzerland currently holds the Chairmanship of the OSCE Asian Contact Group.

Ten years after the devastating tsunami in the Indian Ocean that killed more than 225,000 people, rendered millions homeless and caused massive destruction in 13 countries, various events will take place to remember the disaster of 26 December 2004. Switzerland will take part in memorial ceremonies in Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and India. The 2004 tsunami claimed the lives of 113 Swiss nationals. Switzerland supported the emergency aid and reconstruction efforts within the framework of the Swiss Confederation's Humanitarian Aid.
