The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) of the FDFA will use the exhibition "The Journey to Tunisia" at the Zentrum Paul Klee as an opportunity to showcase cultural and academic exchanges that exist today between Switzerland and Tunisia. In the "More than a Journey" events, Tunisian and Swiss creative artists will show how migrants influence exchanges between the two countries. This question will be explored in a film screening, reading, and panel discussion.
The documentary film "460" (Thursday, 18 April at 18:00) tells the story of young Tunisian migrants who are lost at sea. As part of the event "Literarisches Tunesien: Sprache als Spiegel von Wandel und Wanderungen" (Literary Tunisia: language as a mirror of change and migration, Sunday, 25 May at 11:00), the writers Amor Ben Hamida and Jonas Lüscher will discuss how language reflects and influences social change and transformation. Lastly, a panel discussion entitled "Identität im Wandel? Arabische Frauen als Wissens- und Werteträgerinnen" (Changing identities? Arab women as bearers of knowledge and values, Thursday, 19 June 2014 at 18:00) will explore the influence of migrants on their own and other people's perceptions of them in Switzerland and Tunisia.
Switzerland’s commitment in Tunisia
Switzerland's commitment in Tunisia covers three areas: democratic transition and human rights, economic development and employment, and migration and protection. Tunisia is important from a migration policy perspective because Switzerland and Tunisia have established a migration partnership as part of which they have agreed to cooperate closely on related issues such as visas, repatriation, the diaspora and development. In particular, the SDC promotes projects that leverage the potential of migration for sustainable development.
Besides the SDC, the FDFA's Human Security Division (HSD) and Directorate of International Law (DIL), the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and Federal Office of Migration (FOM) also support projects in Tunisia.
