Swiss participation in Francophonie Day Celebrated in Kyiv

On the 12th of June the most «French» street of Kyiv, the Capital City of Ukraine, hosted the fair entitled “Kostelna Street Celebration: Francophonie Day”.

The guests of the Kostelna Street Celebration could enjoy performances of the street theater, participate in cooking classes, attend culinary lectures and tastings, children's creative area, art expositions, listen to live music and Dj-sets, explore exhibition stands with a variety of hand-made products, delicacies from all around the world, sit for a while in pop-up cafe, learn from coffee masters, have conversations with writers and publishing houses, delight in open-air cinema or shows by famous Ukrainian designers and even a symphony orchestra, play freestyle football, and of course improve French conversation skills in the educational area of Francophonie countries.

Some “Swiss Highlights” of the Francophonie Day enjoyed real ovation of the public: Concert of Swiss conductor Silvio Wyler and symphonic orchestra “Golden Gate of Kyiv” and Modern Dances performed by teenagers from Choreographic Studio “Charodiyi” (“Je t’aime” and “Accroche-toi à tes rêves“). Some others like game “Legendary Shooter Willhelm Tell” fascinated children aged from 6 to 15 years. Also Master Classes on importance of organic food and healthy nutrition or on Swiss culture how to make Raclette were very popular.

The Francophonie Day at Kostelna Street was remarkable not only by different entertaining but also by educational and learning possibilities.

The Swiss Embassy in Ukraine and the Swiss Cooperation Office (SCO) Ukraine participated in the event and presented a variety of information materials about Switzerland and its attractions as well as Swiss-Ukrainian cooperation. People came endless to the “Swiss stall” and seemed to be very interested not only to speak French with native speakers but also to learn about Switzerland as well as the work of the Swiss Embassy and SCO in Ukraine, many enriching conversations took place in the course of the Kostelna Street Celebration day at the “Swiss stall”. And a lot of guests were glad and proud to demonstrate their knowledge about Switzerland within a small Quiz game.

To better illustrate the topic of technical cooperation with Ukraine on practical examples the Swiss supported Project “Organic Market Development in Ukraine” invited visitors to its stand with a wide range of Ukrainian and imported organic products.
