Vietnam Swiss Urban Development Program


The project will assists the Ministry of Construction of the Government of Vietnam in facilitating the implementation of urban planning policies and programs, support innovative solutions to strengthen urban climate resilience and sustainable urban planning and management, and provide strategic advice on critical priorities on urban development.

Hintergrund

Over the last three decades of economic growth, Vietnam’s cities have been growing rapidly. This trend is set to continue as it is expected that until 2040, about 50% of Vietnam’s population will live in urban areas. Cities are major drivers of economic growth in Vietnam, as about 70% of GDP is generated in urban areas. The coordination both at national-subnational as well as inter-ministerial levels is weak and the responsibilities between different actors overlap, which leads to inconsistencies and delays. Mittelfristige Wirkungen

The urban planning and development regulatory framework is improved through collaboration between Ministry of Construction and other ministries in developing national level guidance and manuals for implementation of provincial and city level approved master plans

Improved information transparency and data sharing for climate resilient urban development

Integrated urban climate resilience planning at provincial level is improved.

Finalized new National Urban Development Program (NUDP) that integrates climate change with other development goals in sustainable urban management and development by 2030

Operational National Urban Database to improve the information transparency and data sharing for climate resilient urban development

Distributed technical manual for the climate resilience infrastructure investment in the urban areas

Innovative project proposals are developed and funded to become demonstration projects
