Andean Regional Initiative on Adaptation to Climate Change (ARIACC)

Direct beneficiaries and partners include decision makers at national and subnational levels in Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru with a focus on Ministries of Environment, Agriculture and/or Rural Development, Agencies for Water and Agencies for Social Inclusion; private sector actors that facilitate technical and financial support for rural poor, vulnerable to climate change.

Indirect beneficiaries are rural Andean family farmers vulnerable to climate change.

Outcome  1: Policy measures that enhance AFA’s climate resilience are institutionalized and implemented, providing goods and services for Andean farmers.  

Outcome  2: Capabilities, knowledge and innovations in AFA that support climate resilience services are enhanced and/or strengthened.

Outcome 3: A shared regional agenda for AFA climate resilience is developed and positioned by partner countries at regional and global levels.

Erwartete Resultate:  

• 16 scaled up policy measures and related mechanisms with potential for spatial expansion at subnational level
• 11 sevices that enhance the adaptation capacity of Andean family farmers provided by public and private actors
• 3 graduation models (one per country) for climate change resilient rural enterprises run by Andean family farmers operating in pilot territories
• 5 proposals that improve public and private funding in favour of climate change adaptation of Andean family farming
• 58% of rural talents trained are certified by competent entities recognizing their knowledge and capacities to provide technical assistance on climate change resilience
• 600 farmers, especially women and youth, use and disseminate practices and innovations for climate resilient AFA through existing mechanisms, including tools to facilitate access to markets such as participatory guarantee systems or seals
• Shared regional position for the climate resilience of AFA in 6 regional and global spaces, ensuring broader recognition and support

Resultate von früheren Phasen:  

Policy Impact: 38 policies were strengthened and linked to planning, budgeting and investment instruments, with 300 institutions participating in the delivering of supporting services.

Capacity Building: Over 5,000 (55% Men, 45% Women) technicians and decision makers were capacitated.

Knowledge Sharing: 18 regional learning exchanges with 231 participating institutions have been realized.

Platforms Established: 1 regional knowledge management platform has been installed (EncontrAR).

Global advocacy: 8 international decision-making forums acknowledged Andean adaptation strategies focused on vulnerable population.
