Earthquake in Albania: Switzerland sends experts and participates in reconstruction

On 26 November 2019, Albania was hit by a strong earthquake. SDC’s Humanitarian Aid sent specialists to assess the stability of damaged houses, to organize aid deliveries, and to provide financial support to affected people.

Cyclone Idai in southern Africa

On 14 March 2019, cyclone Idai struck Mozambique before heading for Zimbabwe and Malawi. More than a million people have been affected by the cyclone and the ensuing floods. Switzerland has sent specialists and relief aid to help the people living there.

Earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia

In September 2018, a powerful earthquake and tsunami struck the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. Switzerland dispatched experts to the area and provided emergency assistance

Hurricane Matthew in Haiti – Switzerland’s contribution

On 4 October 2016, Hurricane Matthew devastated western Haiti. Switzerland immediately deployed experts for water supply and emergency shelters.

Operation in Ecuador

On 16 April 2016, an earthquake in Ecuador claimed the lives of more than 600 people and left more than 20,000 homeless. Experts from Swiss Humanitarian Aid immediately began work on re-establishing a drinking water supply for survivors.
