The 2017 Annual Conference of Swiss Humanitarian Aid and the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit will focus on hope for children and young people in humanitarian crises.

Location: Kursaal Bern

The Annual Conference of Swiss Humanitarian Aid and the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit will take place on Friday 24 March 2017 at the Kursaal in Bern. Participants include Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter, Pierre Krähenbühl, General Commissioner of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Elhadj As Sy, Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Ambassador Manuel Sager, Director General of the SDC and Ambassador Manuel Bessler, Delegate for Swiss Humanitarian Aid and Head of the SHA.

Speeches, project presentations, interviews and a panel debate highlight ways to prevent a ‘lost generation’ by providing perspectives for children and young people caught up in humanitarian crises.

Protecting the younger generation in humanitarian crises

Children and young people are among the most vulnerable in humanitarian crises. They are particularly exposed to exploitation, forced recruitment, poverty, abuse and insecurity.

And it is precisely this younger generation that should be shaping the future and development of the regions in question. That is why these young people are being placed centre-stage at this year’s Swiss Humanitarian Aid and SHA annual conference.  Concrete examples of how Switzerland is involving and supporting children and young people affected by humanitarian crises will also be presented at the event.
