Every year, the African Book Fair showcases the richness of African literature, bringing together unknown authors with renowned writers. The African Book Fair is part of the Geneva Book Fair, which will take place from 1 to 5 May 2019. The theme this year is writers who explore African history. The African Book Fair is supported by the SDC.

African authors seem to have conspired this year to provide a mix of stories touching on a wide range of historical periods and topics: discovering Africa, colonisation, independence, contemporary history, decolonisation, and many others. Novelists and essayists take a fresh look at the continent's wounds, but also its glorious achievements, its greatness and its aspirations. It is to these explorers of African history that the 2019 edition of the African Book Fair is dedicated.

The fair will also play host to a number of African publishers – many of them women. They will be there to introduce works and talents that are as yet unknown in Europe to a public keen to discover them.

As every year, the Kourouma Prize will be awarded to a French-speaking author from Africa or of African origin who stands out for their clarity of vision and insight.

The African Book Fair, which promotes authors and publishers from Africa, is supported by the SDC.
