SDC Contribution to the 34th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (hereafter the Movement) is among the most important partner of Switzerland in the implementation of its humanitarian priorities as defined in the Swiss International Cooperation Strategy. As the highest deliberative body, the Conference is of great importance for the Movement’s work, as well as for the promotion of international humanitarian law (IHL). The support for the Conference, the Movement as well as the strengthening of IHL constitutes strong priorities for Switzerland.

- The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is strengthened, and its governance is assured.

Background | The XXXIV edition of the Conference will be held in Geneva on 28-31 October 2024. The Conference brings together every four years the 196 signatory states to the Geneva Conventions, the 192 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (NS), the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). It is the Movement’s main body of governance. |

As the world’s oldest, largest humanitarian network, the Movement serves to prevent and alleviate suffering of victims of conflict and natural disaster. A strong and coherent Movement with a functioning governance that is well positioned to carry forward the fundamental principles and international humanitarian law (IHL). |
