Retain Access in Afghanistan (RAA)
The security situation in Afghanistan remains a major concern for humanitarian and development actors. They depend on reliable security reports and advisory services, on independent analyses of political events and trends, and on physical access to remote and conflict-affected areas. With this project, strengthening the humanitarian-development nexus, the SDC enables interventions that are essential for poor populations and people in need of humanitarian assistance and development aid.

Contexto | Afghanistan has faced successive periods of conflict since 1979 and remains among the world’s least developed countries. A large number of Afghans depend on internationally funded development assistance and humanitarian aid. State capacities are improving slowly, while international and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) continue to play a key role. The Afghan context poses numerous challenges, notably violent conflict, political instability and weak infrastructure. Operational access is a key issue for development and humanitarian actors. Insecurity is a first main concern, and actors require security advice, trainings and information to continue their operations. A second concern is physical access to areas of intervention. Road travel is often not only difficult due to poor infrastructure, but also dangerous due to illegal checkpoints or fighting along overland roads. |
Objetivos | Humanitarian and development actors' interventions to the benefit of poor populations and people in need of humanitarian assistance and development aid are enabled. |
