CABI Plantwise Programme

Plantwise is a global programme led by CABI to increase food security and improve rural livelihoods by reducing crop losses. Local plant clinics provide farmers with practical plant health advice, reinforced by the Plantwise knowledge bank, an online gateway to plant health information. Plantwise strengthens national plant health systems from within, enabling countries to provide farmers with the knowledge they need to lose less. Plantwise aims at reaching over 30 million farmers in up to 34 countries by the end of 2020.

Contexto Smallholder farmers in the developing world are not receiving the best advice on plant health problems when and where they need it. National plant health systems are ill-prepared to respond to such needs. Slow awareness of new and emerging plant health problems, delayed responses in identifying problems and inefficient use of existing resources are the consequences. This results in failure to provide timely solutions to enable farmers to grow more food and earn more money, and thereby threatens the food security of farmers as well as the general population.
Objetivos To contribute to improving food security and livelihoods and alleviating poverty by enabling male and female farmers around the world to lose less and feed more.
Grupos destinarios Smallholder farmers (beneficiaries), Extension services, NGOs, producer organizations (partners & plant doctors), Ministries of Agriculture incl. regulation agencies (main counterpart), and associated research and education institutions.
