Improved food security, nutritional status and incomes among vulnerable households in Juba, South Sudan
Projet terminé
In the current context of economic stress and limited supply of food due to disruption of the main supply routes, urban and peri-urban agriculture in and around areas of Juba provides livelihood opportunities for food production and income generation. The deteriorating situation calls for a two-pronged approach of boosting the agricultural production of nutritious commodities and improving access to the most vulnerable groups who may not be able to produce for their own consumption.

Contexte | Since the security and economic crisis escalated, trade routes have been severely affected, the majority of traders who are mainly from Uganda and Kenya have lost confidence in the local currency. Production around Juba has been disrupted. Together with hyperinflation, this has resulted in shortages of commodities and skyrocketing of prices on the market. Urban and peri-urban agriculture in Juba has a large potential to address the food security gap and provide for the city dwellers. It has become increasingly important as a means to enhance a household’s food basket and earn extra income. |
Objectifs | Improved food security, nutritional status and income of vulnerable households in and around Juba, South Sudan |
Groupes cibles | 6’500 households (of which approximately 60-70 percent will be women and youth) from both urban and peri-urban areas within Juba County. |
Effets à moyen terme | Improved livelihoods and income opportunities for enhanced resilience of vulnerable populations in and around Juba. |
