Contribution to the KFPE - Science-Policy-Practice Dialogue

Projet terminé

The Commission for Research Partnerships with Developing Countries (KFPE) is the central Swiss information, exchange and learning platform for research collaboration in and with the global South. During this transition phase, SDC’s support to KFPE will facilitate co-creation of synthetic evidence and debates on selected contemporary global challenges and enable KFPE to (re)position its 11 principles in the context of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.

Contexte

The 2030 Agenda calls for joint actions across national borders, economic sectors and cultures for managing global risks and achieving a transition towards global sustainable development. Knowledge co-creation and dissemination is set to become even more important in the years to come. Transnational and transdisciplinary research partnerships which respond to principles of equity, effectiveness and efficiency are central to the production of transformative knowledge on complex global issues that is relevant for international cooperation. Thereby, such research partnerships help reduce the still existing imbalance between developing and industrialised countries in the academic and education sector.

Objectifs

To promote fair research partnerships, which are co-producing transformative knowledge on contemporary global challenges that informs development practice and policy in the context of global sustainable development.

Groupes cibles

Researchers from Switzerland and from the global South; target audience of their research (development policy/decision makers and practitioners; donors, private sector, civil society)

Effets à moyen terme

  • KFPE’s 11 principles are (re)positioned and disseminated via specific initiatives in the context of the 2030 Agenda.
  • Improved linkages, exchanges and co-creation of knowledge between science, policy and practice
  • Synthetic evidence on selected thematic issues is widely disseminated and acknowledged on the national and international level.

Principaux résultats antérieurs:

Learning Events Programme for Researchers from Developing Countries reached between 15-35 persons/event and showed a wide variety of themes and topics. The feedbacks from participants were very positive, an impression confirmed by KFPE’s external evaluation done in 2015.

The 2016 Research Fair on the Agenda 2030 jointly organised by SDC and KFPE brought together about 130 participants and provided an appreciated opportunity for exchange between science, policy, and practice on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Two factsheets published in 2015-16 tackling the topic of commodity trading generated considerable attention in the Swiss media. The accompanying dialogue event brought together national and international views of science, private sector, civil society and parliamentarians and led to a constructive dialogue.
