Strengthening spaces for the protection and participation of children affected by conflict and armed violence in Tumaco

Progetto concluso

After the sign of the peace agreement with the FARC, new dynamics of violence have raised in the territories. The expansion and reconfiguration of the non-state armed groups, post-demobilization armed groups, dissidents and other armed groups have increased the humanitarian impact, particularly in rural areas. The deterioration of humanitarian indicators since 2016 evidences the need to continue with the humanitarian response and the protection initiatives, particularly for vulnerable populations such as boys, girls, adolescents and youth as well as afro and indigenous communities.

Contesto Tumaco (municipality of Nariño) is the second largest city on the Pacific coast, a territory historically disputed among illegal armed groups (who are competing for land, smuggling routes, or illegal economies). The armed violence still affects rural and urban areas of the municipality, where most of the population is Afro-Colombian or Indigenous, and minors are specially affected by threats such as forced recruitment or use by illegal armed actors, sexual violence, sexual exploitation, and limited access to education and health services and protection mechanisms.
Obiettivi Promote the exercise of children's rights in areas affected by the armed conflict in Tumaco, through the creation of safe spaces, the strengthening of their participation capacities and the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
