Core Contribution to the International Secretariat for Water (ISW)
A sustainable and equitable water governance and a secured access to safely managed drinking water, sanitation and hygiene are at the base of Switzerland’s efforts for having a Sustainable Development Goal 6 on water. The International Secretariat for Water is a Canada based non-governmental organisation promoting an active civil society by focussing on youth, women and indigenous people. It acts as a facilitator for political processes in support of concrete water projects.

Contesto | Society at large is facing an era of poly-crisis with climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution with devastating long-term impacts on the environment compromising future generations’ wellbeing; the achievement of SDG 6 on water lags far behind and requires a clear acceleration and more ambitious commitments by all involved and concerned stakeholders including youth, women and indigenous people. |

Risultati principali attesi: Output 1.1: Civil society actors, including youth, have the capacity and knowledge to take action and influence change for a water-secure world, from local to global levels Output 2.2: Civil society actors actively produce and lobby for disruptive policy recommendations and messages on water governance and peace Output 3.2: Decentralized water and sanitation development approaches are developed, implemented, validated and scaled at local, national and basin levels Output 4.1: The institutional governing structure of the ISW is enhanced and more resilient to a context of growth and development Risultati fasi precedenti: ISW has enabled civil society and youth to be recognized as credible and influential actors: over 930 000 civil society actors (55% women and youth) have been empowered to become drivers of change in the water sector; millions of civil society and youth representatives have proposed significant contributions to over 100 political processes, at national and global levels; thousands of youths from over 150 countries, including countries in fragile contexts have developed skills, capacities, and knowledge regarding advocacy, communication, project management, entrepreneurship, water governance, transboundary water cooperation, water & peace, water and climate, and agriculture. |
