La fame e la denutrizione mettono in pericolo non solo la salute degli individui, ma essenzialmente anche lo sviluppo di interi Paesi. La DSC s’impegna affinché tutti abbiano un’alimentazione adeguata, sufficiente e di buona qualità. In quest’ottica attribuisce importanza all’intera catena della creazione di valore dei generi alimentari, che inizia dai campi nei quali si producono gli alimenti, prosegue con lo stoccaggio, la lavorazione, i mercati, il commercio, i trasporti e finisce sulle tavole dei consumatori.

La DSC si impegna a livello mondiale per il diritto degli esseri umani a un’alimentazione adeguata. Pianifica le sue attività con l’obiettivo di dare alle fasce della popolazione più povere e svantaggiate come i piccoli agricoltori, le donne e i giovani un accesso equo al sapere, alle risorse produttive e ai mercati. In questo contesto la DSC sostiene queste fasce della popolazione nell’uso produttivo e parsimonioso delle risorse naturali, nella gestione degli effetti del cambiamento climatico, nello stoccaggio e nella commercializzazione dei loro prodotti e nel costante adattamento a condizioni ambientali sempre diverse. In tutto questo, essa presta particolare attenzione alla conservazione della biodiversità altamente minacciata. Al contempo lavora anche per creare sistemi di consulenza e ricerca orientati alle esigenze.

La DSC promuove inoltre innovazioni lungo le catene di creazione di valore dei generi alimentari, che consentono ai consumatori e alle consumatrici un’alimentazione sana e variata nonché l’accesso ad alimenti adeguati, sia nelle aree rurali che in quelle urbane.

Un’agricoltura sostenibile che assicura un’alimentazione sana e preservi la biodiversità è la base per garantire a tutti il diritto a un’alimentazione adeguata. Alla luce di questo obiettivo, la Svizzera s’impegna nel settore della sicurezza alimentare nell’ambito della cooperazione internazionale. In quest’ottica l’agricoltura svizzera, con la sua produzione alimentare multifunzionale orientata all’equilibrio sociale e regionale, basata sulle famiglie e rispettosa dell’ambiente, funge da modello.

Accesso all'alimentazione

Affermare il diritto a un’alimentazione adeguata per le fasce di popolazione più povere e svantaggiate con sistemi alimentari equi («dal campo al piatto»).

Produzione, consulenza e commercializzazione

Sostenere i piccoli agricoltori e agricoltrici e le loro organizzazioni nella produzione sostenibile, nello stoccaggio e nella commercializzazione delle loro derrate.

Diritti fondiari

Accesso equo alla terra e alle risorse naturali per rafforzare l’autonomia delle comunità rurali.

Biodiversità

Conservare la varietà delle piante utili e migliorare i sistemi delle sementi puntando sulle conoscenze della popolazione locale e garantendo la conservazione delle specie tradizionali.

Innovative Vector Control Consortium (IVCC)

Vector-borne neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and malaria are major causes of mortality, morbidity and lack of economic progress for the poorest. Targeting the vector (mosquito) is a main eradication approach. Due to climate change and natural mutation, insecticide resistance is affecting most malaria endemic countries. The Innovative Vector Control Consortium (IVCC) is the world-leader Product Development Partnership developing innovative and safe insecticides. SDC strategic support to IVCC complements Switzerland’s global action against malaria. 


VEGI - Inclusive and sustainable vegetable production and marketing

This exit phase further promotes vegetable production and nutrition in Mongolia, focusing on the most demanded crops with domestically-produced seeds suitable to agro-climatic conditions. It adds an organisational development’s support to the Mongolian Farmers Association for Rural Development and to the Vegetable Seed Reserve Unit to strengthen the sustainability of these critical institutions, based on SDC similar experiences in Africa.


COVID-19 - Prevention and Recovery in the Mekong Region

Vulnerable groups in Laos and Cambodia suffered disproportionally from the Covid-19 socio-economic crisis affecting their income, as well as access to public services and employment. Swiss support will combine institutional strengthening of local actors and provision of public services, skills development, access to credit and support to returning migrants. The long-term experience of Switzerland and trusted relationships with governments add value to the intervention


Strengthening Social Protection in Jordan

Switzerland's contribution to this multi-donor project will provide social assistance to Jordanians households which are unable to meet their basic needs, including as a result of COVID-19, and at the same time support the institutional reform process of Jordan's social protection system. Switzerland will contribute to the reform process of the National Aid Fund to make it more effective, inclusive, accountable and sustainable. This first phase orient Switzerland’s engagement in upcoming phases which will be manly focussed on the institutional reform process.


MASAP - Markets and Seeds Access Project

This initiative promotes the utilization of quality seeds of drought tolerant small grains and legumes through support to farmers’ organisations and enterprises, private sector engagement and evidence-based advocacy. 94’000 smallholders will benefit from increased market participation, higher incomes, and consumption of nutritious diets.  It is implemented by NIRAS with the Community Technology Development Organisation and the Swiss-based Research Institute of Organic Agriculture.


Smallholder Safety Net Up-scaling Pro-gramme (SSNUP)

Smallholder Safety Net Up-scaling Programme is a multi-donor public private partnership to support small and medium agribusiness enterprises, farmer organisations and financial intermediaries in providing effective services to their smallholder farmer customers and members, thereby reducing their farm and livelihood risks. The programme will lead to higher incomes and more jobs notably for women as well as increased food security, contributing to improved livelihoods of an estimated 3 million smallholder households applying more sustainable farm practices.


Inclusive Insurance

Most of Bolivia's population is exposed to various risks that may trigger situations of poverty; in addition, the country is located in a region that is highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. During the previous phases, the project sought to motivate actors in the insurance market to implement inclusive and agricultural insurance; the exit phase seeks to consolidate the conditions enabling the innovative and sustainable operation of this insurance market.  


ENUFF - Enhancing Nutrition of Upland Farming Families

01.07.2020 - 30.06.2024

Despite a sustained economic growth of 7.7% over the last decade of Lao PDR, children under five, nationally, 21% are underweight, 33% are stunted and 9% wasted (2017). Based on initial achievements and lessons learned from phase one, Switzerland, with its leave no one behind value, will provide support for a second and final phase to the government­’s multi-sectoral approach that integrates agriculture, nutrition, sanitation and hygiene. The geographical scope expands to 20 new remote villages and targets women, men and children.


Programme de renforcement de la résilience des ménages pastoraux et agropastoraux face aux crises climatiques et à l'insécurité (RESILIA) Phase 1

la DDC contribue au renforcement de la résilience de plus de 700’000 personnes dont les déplacées internes, affectées par la crise sécuritaire et les changements climatiques au Burkina Faso. Se basant sur la riche expérience de la Suisse dans l’élevage pastoral au Sahel, le programme va soutenir les pasteurs et agropasteurs pour que leur pratique d’élevage et moyens de subsistance s’adaptent aux défis climatiques et améliorent leurs conditions de vie tout en favorisant la paix au Burkina Faso.


UNHAS – Accès aux bénéficiaires en Afrique de l’Ouest

Dans un contexte d’insécurité civile et alimentaire croissante en Afrique de l’Ouest, aggravée par la crise sanitaire due au Covid-19, seul le service aérien humanitaire des Nations Unies (UNHAS) permet d’accéder aux populations grâce à un transport sûr et rapide d’acteurs et de biens humanitaires et de développement. La contribution à UNHAS permettra d’atteindre les populations vulnérables dans les régions reculées, d’assurer le suivi des programmes suisses et de rendre compte sur ces derniers.


CROPS4HD - Consumption of Resilient Or-phan Crops & Products for Healthier Diets

The agroecological production and sale of neglected and underutilized species offers nutritional and health benefits for consumers, market opportunities for farmers and contribute to the sustainable use of biodiversity and climate change adaptation. In Chad, Niger, Tanzania and India and globally, SDC supports SWISSAID and its partners in establishing agroecological food and seed systems. FiBL, the leading Swiss Research Institute of Organic Agriculture supports this endeavour with scientific evidence.


Nutrition in City Ecosystems (NICE)

The Nutrition in City Ecosystems (NICE) project aims to improve nutrition and health, and to reduce poverty by increasing the demand and supply of diverse, agroecologically produced foods. Implemented by a Swiss public private consortium, NICE focusses on women, youth and vulnerable populations. City governments in two secondary cities each in Bangladesh, Kenya and Rwanda will be supported, and learning between cities, incl. Swiss cities, will be facilitated to contribute to the global discourse on sustainable food systems.
