Cambiamenti climatici e ambiente

Gli effetti del cambiamento climatico non conoscono frontiere geografiche. Riguardano l’intera popolazione mondiale e sono particolarmente tangibili laddove le basi vitali delle persone dipendono direttamente dalla natura. Il cambiamento climatico comporta povertà, fame e catastrofi naturali.

I cambiamenti climatici globali mettono gli attori che lavorano nel campo dello sviluppo a confronto con nuove sfide; infatti i Paesi e i gruppi di popolazioni poveri sono molto più toccati da questi mutamenti rispetto a quelli ricchi. Il cambiamento climatico incide sullo sviluppo e minaccia i progressi già raggiunti. Per tale motivo la tutela del clima e la gestione del cambiamento climatico assumono un’importanza sempre maggiore nel quadro della cooperazione allo sviluppo. Il Programma globale Cambiamento climatico della DSC tiene particolarmente conto di questa tendenza.

Gestione sostenibile delle foreste

Con misure specifiche nell’ambito dello sfruttamento della terra e del bosco si può compensare ogni anno una parte significativa delle emissioni di gas a effetto terra a livello planetario.

Approvvigionamento energetico

Servizi energetici moderni e un utilizzo efficiente dell’energia sono un presupposto per ottimizzare i processi di produzione e migliorare le condizioni di vita delle persone.

Finanziamento della protezione del clima

La Svizzera tiene conto del cambiamento climatico nella sua politica di sviluppo e mette a disposizione conoscenze specialistiche, soluzioni tecniche e mezzi finanziari per la protezione del clima.

Adattamento ai cambiamenti climatici

Mediante il Programma globale Cambiamento climatico, la DSC sostiene le popolazioni particolarmente vulnerabili di vari continenti nel quadro dell’adattamento ai cambiamenti climatici.

Regioni di montagna: sviluppo sostenibile degli ecosistemi sensibili

Le regioni di montagna sono lo spazio vitale per un quinto della popolazione mondiale e la fonte di approvvigionamento idrico per metà di essa. La Svizzera, Paese di montagna, si impegna per uno sviluppo sostenibile nelle regioni montuose.

Alternative Nobel Prize

The Right Livelihood Award (RLA) or so-called “Alternative Nobel Prize” is bestowed to individuals that offer concrete solutions to global challenges including sustainable development and poverty eradication. The contribution of SDC aims to establish a second RLA Foundation office in Geneva which will allow the RLA Foundation and the laureates to reach out and better network with the Geneva-based UN organizations, civil society, research community and media.


Support to Disaster Management Authorities for the protection of population affected by the military operations in North Waziristan

Pakistani military operation against militants in North Waziristan Agency on Pakistani/Afghan border, has displaced over half a million people. Their temporary settlement in the neighbouring regions constitutes a challenge for the hosting population and authorities. SDC will enhance instituational capacity of the Disaster Management Authorities to fullfil their manadates to the protection of IDPs and and building resilience of the communities. It will enable the authorities to better handle challenges posed by conflict and recurring natural disasters.


Resources for Local Democracy

At the request of the Serbian Government, SDC will support three reforms on Serbia’s path towards European integration: 1) the enforcement of a municipal finance law that awards good performance of local governments and ensures the necessary resources for democratic decisions; 2) the development of regional development policies for reducing regional disparities, including mechanisms for disaster risk prevention; and 3) high quality municipal audits aiming to achieve a rational use of public resources.

Avvalendosi dei più moderni metodi scientifici, la DSC aiuta la Cina a comprendere gli effetti dei cambiamenti climatici nonché a elaborare e ad attuare apposite misure di adattamento.  Il progetto «Adapting to Climate Change in China» (ACCC) combina attività politiche e di ricerca. L’obiettivo è integrare l’adattamento ai cambiamenti climatici nei processi di sviluppo.


Restoration of the Strumica River Basin

As a continuation of the support to the Macedonian water and nature sector, Switzerland developed a group of projects that will assist the country to have cleaner water and a healthier environment, as well as to move forward in meeting its obligations towards the EU. Through this project, Citizens and farmers in the Strumica river basin will benefit from improved economic wellbeing as a result of a better ecological status of the river basin and reduced flooding hazards.


IGAD-FAO Partnership Programme (PP) on Building Resilience for (Agro-) Pastoralist Communities

IGAD and FAO will jointly contribute to build resilience of communities in the Horn of Africa’s cross-border areas by addressing marketing and trade, transboundary animal diseases and natural resources management. It will also contribute to strengthen the capacity of IGAD specialized agencies to lead the regional agenda for the improvement of cross-border pastoral livelihoods.


Strengthening Drought Resilience in the Somali Region

01.02.2014 - 31.03.2020

This is a contribution to the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), within a programme co-financed by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation & Development (BMZ). It allows the expansion of effective drought resilience experience in Afar into the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia. GIZ and the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture will pilot and document natural resources rehabilitation and livelihood improvement measures through participatory approaches, addressing the priority concerns of local pastoralist populations.


Strengthening State Strategies for Climate Actions (3SCA)

01.01.2014 - 30.04.2020

India recently approved State level Actions Plans to address Climate Change (SAPCCs). However, institutional capacities for implementing these plans are weak. Through this project, the Global Programme Climate Change (GPCC) will support the operationalisation of SAPCCs in three states in India (Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Madhya Pradesh) by strengthening capacities in planning and implementing relevant climate actions across select sectors including water, disaster management, forest and energy.



Aga Khan Foundation: Integrated Health and Habitat Improvement (IHHI) Rasht Valley

Tajikistan is the poorest country of the former Soviet Union and is marked by a sluggish transition and fragility patterns. This project contributes to improving the Rasht Valley (the most neglected and fragile area of the country) population’s quality of life through better provision of and access to water and health services, as well as increased resilience against natural hazards. Moreover, it enhances professional skills and empowers the local population in planning and investing in its communities.


Swiss Programme for Research on Global Issues for Development - Research Module on Ecosystems

Enhancing sustainable and climate-friendly use and management of ecosystems for human well-being is at the core of a new research module in the context of SDC’s and the Swiss National Science Foundation’s (SNSF) joint r4d Program (Swiss Programme for Research on Global Issues for Development; www.r4d.ch). Researchers from Switzerland with their partners in Africa, Asia, and Latin America will jointly generate new insights and develop innovative concepts and tools for a more sustainable and equitable provision of ecosystem services benefiting the poor.
