P4H – Global Network for Health Financing and Social Protection

Progetto concluso

Annually 100 million people fall into poverty worldwide because of health-related costs. Therefore Universal Health Coverage, defined as all people receive the quality health services they need without enduring financial hardship, is a key target of the Sustainable Development Agenda. P4H is a global network of multilateral and bilateral partners who provide coherent support to low-/middle-income countries to build sustainable health financing and social protection systems for universal health coverage.

Contesto 400 million people do not have access to essential health services, and 6% of people in low and middle-income countries are tipped into poverty or even pushed further into extreme poverty because of ill-health-related out of pocket payments. For this reason many middle- and low-income countries strive to gradually achieve Universal Health Coverage, one of the cross-cutting and most prominent targets of the Sustainable Development Goal 3, i.e. “ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages”.
Obiettivi The overall goal of P4H is to contribute to sustainable development and health for all in low and middle-income counties by helping them achieve Universal Health Coverage. P4H focuses on the development of effective, equitable and sustainable health financing and social health protection systems in order to protect people from financial hardship due to ill-health and to unfold their economic and social potential.
Gruppi target Ultimate beneficiaries of P4H are populations in low and middle-income countries; in particular those who do not have access to comprehensive health services and/or do not benefit from financial protection.
Direct clients are governments striving to build equitable and sustainable health financing or social health protection strategies.
Indirect beneficiaries are P4H partners who create higher impact through coordination and harmonisation of their approaches.
