P4H – Global Network for Health Financing and Social Protection
Progetto concluso
Annually 100 million people fall into poverty worldwide because of health-related costs. Therefore Universal Health Coverage, defined as all people receive the quality health services they need without enduring financial hardship, is a key target of the Sustainable Development Agenda. P4H is a global network of multilateral and bilateral partners who provide coherent support to low-/middle-income countries to build sustainable health financing and social protection systems for universal health coverage.

- Evidence-based quality health financing and/or social health protection strategies are developed and adopted in 10 new countries.
- Implementation of evidence-based quality health financing or social health protection strategies has effectively started in five of these countries.
- One partner country is globally recognized as a “champion” of universal health coverage thanks to progress in the implementation of the strategy.
- Within the UHC field, P4H is recognized and well-positioned as a pivotal and legitimate global network for health financing and social health protection.
- More than 35 countries have benefitted from coordinated strategic and technical assistance as well as from capacity building measures of P4H, 15 of them through German-Swiss co-funding.
- Tangible results also in SDC priority countries: e.g. Chad, at implementation stage of a Universal Health Coverage strategy; Tanzania to adopt health financing strategy.
- P4H governance and operational model have been revised along two key principles of the 2030 Agenda: a) multisectoral collaboration both at country and global level; b) uptake as new P4H members of middle-income countries contributing their knowhow and experience in moving towards Universal Health Coverage and social health protection.
- P4H is more visible internationally through a new communication strategy (branding; website etc.)

| Contesto | 400 million people do not have access to essential health services, and 6% of people in low and middle-income countries are tipped into poverty or even pushed further into extreme poverty because of ill-health-related out of pocket payments. For this reason many middle- and low-income countries strive to gradually achieve Universal Health Coverage, one of the cross-cutting and most prominent targets of the Sustainable Development Goal 3, i.e. “ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages”. |
| Obiettivi | The overall goal of P4H is to contribute to sustainable development and health for all in low and middle-income counties by helping them achieve Universal Health Coverage. P4H focuses on the development of effective, equitable and sustainable health financing and social health protection systems in order to protect people from financial hardship due to ill-health and to unfold their economic and social potential. |
| Gruppi target |
Ultimate beneficiaries of P4H are populations in low and middle-income countries; in particular those who do not have access to comprehensive health services and/or do not benefit from financial protection. Direct clients are governments striving to build equitable and sustainable health financing or social health protection strategies. Indirect beneficiaries are P4H partners who create higher impact through coordination and harmonisation of their approaches. |
