Promoting Water Stewardship 2030 (Phase Il)

Water stewardship promotes the sustainable and equitable management of freshwater resources among communities, businesses, utilities and investors. SDC supports the Alliance for Water Stewardship, the CDP Water Security Programme and Water Witness International synergistically to advocate for water stewardship particularly in developing countries. SDC is a forerunner in bringing together these key actors to increase outreach and impact.

Contesto The scale and immediacy of the global water crisis, and its significance for social justice and economic progress are striking, exacerbated by a warming planet, rapidly escalating demand and difficult governance challenges. Water security has a profound impact on human dignity, health and opportunities for education and economic empowerment. In response to these risks and opportunities, water stewardship can aim to become a truly transformative movement, spearheaded by leading organisations, governments and businesses.
Obiettivi Establish credible water stewardship as a globally adopted practice, expected norm and more effective approach to support the achievement of SDG6 targets and water security for all.
Gruppi target

Governments and policy makers at national, regional and global level

Corporations with a focus on 4 priority sectors: agriculture, food & beverage, ICT, textiles

Civil society, consumers, citizens.

Effetti a medio termine

1 . Credible, verified site and catchment based multi-stakeholder water stewardship action becomes normal operating practice for production sites for multinational companies in each of the four priority sectors (agriculture, food & beverage, ICT, textiles).

2. National governments enhance policy conducive to more and better private sector water disclosure. Companies in major water consunning and polluting sectors integrate water into fundamental business governance processes, leading to reduced water demands, the elimination of pollution and enhanced access to WASH across direct operations and supply chains.

3. Transformative change is triggered for inclusive and resilient growth by equipping civil society, decision makers and citizens with knowledge about the impacts of the water footprint and stimulating demand for and widespread uptake of water stewardship within supply chains of consumer society.

3. An exchange platform has been initiated between key stewardship actors to better align and collaborate. The development of a common theory of change provided greater alignment among the water stewardship community.
