Gorenjska is an Alpine region in the north west of Slovenia. As this region has so far had little finance or specialist knowledge, there has been hardly any investment in the promotion of renewable energy. Thanks to the enlargement contribution five schools and a swimming pool will soon be heated with solar energy, biomass and heat pumps. With the construction of photovoltaic plants and solar cells solar radiation is transformed into electrical energy . In addition public buildings are better insulated.

Information is exchanged between Slovenia and Switzerland through workshops, inspections and comparisons of experience. The local economy benefits by receiving information about new technologies and their possible applications. Various information on events, brochures and training programmes will raise the awareness of the general public and particularly of schools for the topic of renewable energy.

At the end of 2009 a similar project agreement for the promotion of renewable energies was signed in the Slovenian coastal region of Primorska. Switzerland will contribute a total of 9 million francs for the promotion of renewable energies in Slovenia.
