Immediate Assistance to Anbar IDPs in Kirkuk and Salah al-Din Governorates

Progetto concluso

Save the Children Switzerland and its partners are assisting the civilian population, who fled from the armed conflict in Anbar, in Kirkuk and Salah al-Din provinces by providing food, non-food items, child protection and non-formal education. The focus of the intervention is on protection and assistance of the most vulnerable children and families who are temporarily sheltered in public buildings, schools and mosques and in urgent need of assistance.

Contesto

430'000 people had to leave their homes due to the ongoing armed conflict in Anbar province. Many fled to Kirkuk and Salah al-Din governorates. 50% among the displaced are children. Mostly sheltered under precarious conditions in public buildings, mosques and schools, they are in urgent need of emergency assistance and a protective environment where they feel safe and can enjoy non-formal education since they also dropped out of school.

Obiettivi

Displaced girls, boys and their families affected by the armed conflict in Anbar live in dignity and have access to food, basic items, child protection and education interventions.

Gruppi target

A total of 44'500 lDPs in Kirkuk and Salah al-Din receive emergency assistance, child protection and non-formal education services.

Effetti a medio termine
  1. Internal displaced children and families can cope with and recover from the hardship of displacement through the provision of food and non-food items.
  2. Internal displaced children and youth feel safe and have access to psycho-social services in Child and Youth Friendly Spaces.
  3. Internal displaced "out of school" children and youth have access to non-formal education.
Risultati

Risultati principali attesi:  

1.1. 6'203 households (39'699 individuals) receive food assistance and hygiene kits to meet their needs

1.2. 5'000 children receive winter clothing (winter 2014/2015)

2.1. 800 children and youth have access to 4 Child and Youth Friendly Spaces (CFS/YFS)

2.2. 100 children and youth enjoy protection from physical and psychological harm.

3. 400 out-of school children and youth receive non-formal education in CFS/YFS and 10 schools in host communities will be provided with school material.

Save the Children will implement the project with two long-standing local partners: the National Institute for Human Rights in Kirkuk and Sorouh for Sustainable Development Foundation in Salah al-Din.
