Visit of Chairman of the Korean National Assembly in Switzerland

Andreas Aebi, President of the Swiss National Council received a courtesy visit by Park Byeong-Seug, Chairman of the Korean National Assembly and his delegation.

Andreas Aebi, President of the Swiss National Council received a courtesy visit by Park Byeong-Seug, Chairman of the Korean National Assembly and his delegation as well as Roh Tae-Kang, Ambassador, Embassy of Republic Korea to the Swiss Confederation, in Bern on 24 November 2021.

President Aebi and Chairman Park underlined the good quality of bilateral relations and their desire to deepen them. They mentioned 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, which will take place in 2023, as an opportunity to intensify exchanges.

Regarding the EFTA-Korea free trade agreement, the President of the National Council underlined Switzerland's interest in modernizing the agreement and expressed the hope that the talks between experts could end with positive results very soon.

Mr. Aebi underlined Switzerland’s commitment to promote peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, including through humanitarian aid and as a member of the NNSC (Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission). Mr. Park Byeong-Seug thanked Switzerland for its commitment and spoke of the importance of promoting peace. Mr. Park also mentioned the number of Swiss tourists in the Republic of Korea before the pandemic (30,000). As the number has fallen sharply, he hopes it can rise again after the crisis.
