Switzerland has been a partner of North Macedonia for more than 30 years and through its cooperation programme, has supported national reforms in the fields of democracy, sustainable economic development and natural resources management.
The overarching goal of the Swiss Cooperation Programme 2025-2028 is to support North Macedonia to achieve sustainable development goals and advance the European integration. It aims to enhance the capacities of national and local actors, public and private, to implement reforms that will improve the lives of all people while protecting nature, through three strategic priorities:
- Democracy and Good Governance
- Sustainable Economic Development
- Sustainable Management of Natural Resources
The programme will continue to promote gender equality, social inclusion and youth empowerment. Protection of the environment and enhancing climate resilience will be systematically mainstreamed in our interventions. Special attention will be given to transparency as a means to increase trust in institutions, efficient use of resources and accountability. Dialogue between state institutions, civil society and private sector will be promoted to ensure broad ownership and maximize impact.
Switzerland will partner with national and local authorities, civil society, private sector, international organizations, Swiss and international experts, as well as other donors. Special efforts will be made to leverage additional funds for sustainable development.
The planned budget for the period 2025–2028 is 56.1 million Swiss francs.
