As the official representation of Switzerland, the Embassy covers all matters concerning diplomatic relations between the two countries. It represents Swiss interests in the areas of political, economic, financial and legal affairs, as well as science, education and culture.

Novel Coronavirus

For information related to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) kindly consult the information and directives of the local authorities (www.ms.ro and www.mae.ro) and the recommendations of the World Health Organization WHO

On state level, the Federal Office of Public Health of Switzerland FHPO informs in regards to the Novel Coronavirus and publishes travel advice accordingly.

The Travel Advice FDFA (in German, French and Italian) offers travelers basic information for travel preparation by informing on possible risks and certain precautions. They are to be considered as a complementary source of information.

Important notice:

Currently there are indirect flights (with 1-3 stops) from Romania back to Switzerland. As flight offers are changing rapidly, please contact the airline or your travel agent to book or change a return flight.

From Sofia / Bulgaria, there are direct flights to Zurich via Bulgaria Air.

To return to Switzerland by car is possible via Hungary and Austria. The border from Romania to Hungary is open for transit between 9:00 p.m. and midnight. Please have your Swiss passport or Swiss residence permit with you. It is recommended to have a full tank at the border.

It is possible that from May 15, travel restrictions in Romania may be relaxed.

Every Swiss citizen bears individual responsibility for the implementation of a trip abroad in accordance with the Federal Act on Swiss Persons and Institutions Abroad (195.1).

If you decide to stay in Romania or Bulgaria, please download the "Travel Admin" application and register.

Entry to Switzerland for foreign citizens

Entry to Switzerland is currently restricted for Romanian, Bulgarian citizens and other nationalities until further notice. Only holders of valid Swiss resident permits can enter Switzerland.

If you need to travel to Switzerland to continue or start an already planned medical procedure, please contact SEM per Email (aufenthalt@sem.admin.ch) stating the reasons of your request.
