Welcome

Welcome by the Ambassador

Welcome!

It gives me great pleasure to warmly welcome you to the Embassy of Switzerland to Zambia.

The bilateral relations between Switzerland and Zambia, which will reach a 51year milestone in 2020, stretches as far as the late 19th century. Protestant missionaries from Switzerland began working in eastern Zambia in 1885. Swiss nationals subsequently settled in mining areas in different parts of Zambia.

Switzerland recognized Zambia immediately after it gained independence in 1964 and established diplomatic relations with it two years later. Switzerland opened a consulate in Lusaka in 1969.

I strongly believe that increased success of the cooperation programmes and the political engagement between our two countries will contribute even further to consolidate the mutual knowledge between both peoples and will lend a new dynamism and intensification of the cultural, commercial and economic ties.

Among the factors that has underpinned the dynamism of our bilateral relations, if not the most important, is undoubtedly the Swiss community in Zambia, to whom I would like to express a particular word of appreciation and recognition as a continued example of hard-work and success that have been key to foster and enhance Switzerland’s name in the region.

I count on your support and invite you to our Facebook Page for further dialogue and interaction that will surely enable us to provide a better public service to you.

Sincerely,

Niculin Jäger

Ambassador of Switzerland to Zimbabwe, Malawi and Zambia.
