Job Description

The Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the UN in New York promotes Switzerland’s interests at the UN Headquarters, in line with the country’s foreign policy goals. Under the political direction of the Swiss government, the Mission participates in the work of the UN’s principal organs (General Assembly, Security Council and Economic and Social Council). Furthermore, Switzerland was a member of the Security Council in 2023 and 2024.

You will be the Driver/Messenger, responsible for providing safe and dependable airport pickups and general transportation for the Ambassador and various VIPs and facilitating efficient messenger services for the Mission. Additional tasks may be asked as needed. Your responsibilities include picking up and dropping off the Ambassador at various locations in New York City, including but not limited to the airport, the residence, the Mission, and the United Nations. Additionally, you will be responsible for delivering important messages, documents, packages, and other items to and from these locations and others.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and organized individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a track record of hands-on experience.

You will receive the necessary training on the job and will work as part of a team of approximately 50 employees in a high-rise building in Manhattan. The offices are modern, spacious and bright.

Requirements

  • Valid United States driver’s license
  • History of safe driving and compliance with traffic laws and speed limits
  • Punctuality and reliability
  • Primary education, with secondary education considered an asset
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant, hands-on work experience, preferably as a driver or messenger
  • in New York City
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience in handling electric vehicles considered an asset
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • High degree of personal integrity and trustworthiness
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Fluent English, with knowledge of a Swiss national language considered an asset

Business Development Manager in the Swiss Business Hub USA Team

Starting date: February 1, 2025 (or tbd)

The Consulate General of Switzerland in New York is looking for a qualified candidate for a permanent position as Business Development Manager for the Swiss Business Hub USA (SBH USA). This is a locally recruited position within the SBH USA headquarter at the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York.

The SBH USA is part of the official representation of Switzerland in the United States, representing Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE), Switzerland’s official agency for Export and Investment Promotion.

Our mission is to enable new business. We are the sparring partners of Swiss companies and, together with our network of trusted experts, we support them with their internationalization projects on their journey from Switzerland to the United States. Our services include market surveys, business partner search, legal- tax- and regulatory advice as well as trade fair services and support in the market. 

As our Business Development Manager, you will be responsible to develop the US market (East Coast) and support Swiss SMEs focusing on the Machine- Electro- and Metal Industries (MEM) and Infrastructure.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Active market development, customer management, acquisition and care.
  • Support Swiss SMEs with their internationalization projects to successfully enter the US market.
  • Understand the needs of the Swiss SMEs and provide guidance.
  • Consult Swiss exporting companies on their market entry.
  • Coordinate and manage client inquiries, projects and mandates, including acquisition of new clients.
  • Trendspotting and scouting: identify business opportunities and create relevant content (reports and social media)
  • Identify qualified business partners for Swiss SMEs.
  • Identify US companies that could potentially settle in Switzerland, supporting Investment Promotion activities.
  • Further develop our network of trusted experts.
  • Organize events and networking activities (East-Coast, Mid-West), including trade fairs.
  • Visit Swiss companies in Switzerland as well as the US.
  • Develop a strong business sector competence.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, ideally followed by a graduate education in Foreign Trade and/or International Business.
  • Minimum of 5 years working experience in industry (preferable Mechanical, Electrical or Metal)
  • Working experience at export or investment promotion agency, consulting firm or in an international industrial business development role is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) in English. Knowledge of one of the Swiss National languages is an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including comfort interacting with different hierarchical levels in an international setup.
  • A strong dedication to providing excellent service and ensuring high-quality outcomes.
  • Can bring an inspiring, go-getting and engaging energy to your team and clients.
  • Experience with government relations is a plus.
  • A developed network (industry experts, associations, consultants, law firms) is a plus.
  • As part of the SBH USA team, you will be based in New York but will collaborate closely with the entire U.S. team (LA, SF, ATL, DC and Boston). Willingness and flexibility to travel is expected.
  • Additional duties beyond those listed here will be determined and assigned as needed. Training will be provided.

Visa Officer (full time position)

The Consulate General of Switzerland in New York is looking for a locally employed Visa Officer of Swiss or Schengen citizenship, starting his or her employment on February 1, 2025 or upon agreement. The successful candidate needs to participate in a mandatory training session (virtual) in 2025 and pass the final examination.

Your responsibilities:

  • Conduct visa interviews
  • Examining (including decision-making) visa applications under Schengen and Swiss national law
  • Understand and implement the current Schengen visa regulations
  • Operate specific software in addition to standard programs like Word and Excel
  • Reply enquiries with regards to visa and migration regulations at the counter, over the phone or by email

Requirements:

  • Due to internal regulations, the candidate must hold the Swiss or a Schengen citizenship
  • Fluent in at least one Swiss national language as well as excellent skills in English
  • Ability to perform efficiently under time pressure
  • Flexible and reliable team player with integrity
  • Strong level of organizational skills and attention to detail

  •  A completed business management education and computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet)
