Movie

The documentary Cows, Cheese, and Three Kids (Kühe, Käse, und 3 Kinder) produced by Swiss filmmaker Susanna Fanzun has been chosen to close the International Documentary Forum (iDOCS) 2016 in Beijing.

In the vast world on the small Gün Alp, everything revolves around three children: Braida, 8; Marchet, 6; and Jon, 3. Life during the summer on the Alps in the Safien Valley consists of cows, cheese, and playful learning through helping out with the daily chores. The children assume a great deal of responsibility for their actions and have an impressive amount of knowledge about the animals and nature. Living, playing, and working on the Alps is starkly juxtaposed with the complex reality of life for many other people.

The film raises questions about consumption and the comfort of interconnectedness through media. Following the screening, director Fanzun will join the audience for a discussion of the film and share her experience of its production.
