The tasks of the embassy

03.02.2025 – Latest news

  • The Embassy of Switzerland in Kinshasa is closely following the development of the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
  • We recommend that you regularly consult the FDFA’s travel advice (fr, de, it) and obtain information locally and via the media.
  • It is not advisable to travel to the DRC for tourist purposes or for any other non-emergency trip. In some parts of the country, general travel is not recommended. In the capital Kinshasa, violent demonstrations, fires, roadblocks and looting are taking place in connection with the escalation of the conflict in the east of the country. Attacks on foreign embassies have also been reported. The evolution of the situation is uncertain and a further deterioration in the security situation is possible at any time.
  • Avoid demonstrations and large gatherings of people. Follow the instructions of the local authorities, especially the website.
  • The FDFA does not intent to carry out an organized departure for Swiss nationals. The decision to leave the country is voluntary and at your own risk and expense. Therefore, use the commercial means of transport that are available.
  • Switzerland may only be able to provide limited services if the security situation deteriorates further.
  • We encourage Swiss travellers to download the federal TravelAdmin app and register their trip there. This way, our representation can contact you if necessary.
  • If necessary, you can contact the FDFA helpline: +41 800 24 7 365 or 0 800 24 7 365 or the Swiss Embassy in Kinshasa.
