Swiss Embassy launches exhibition to celebrate the opening of Switzerland’s Gotthard Base Tunnel

CAIRO, Egypt - The Embassy of Switzerland launched an exhibition titled “Linking North and South” on January 17th 2017 at the Egyptian Railway Museum to celebrate the opening of Switzerland’s Gotthard Base tunnel, the world’s longest railway tunnel, linking North and South Europe.

The exhibition was inaugurated by H.E. Egypt’s Minister of Transportation Galal Said, H.E. Ambassador of Switzerland Markus Leitner, and the Chairman of Egyptian National Railways Medhat Shousha, and featured large lit-up panels showing the construction and completion of the 57.1 kilometer Gotthard tunnel as well as information about it. A musical concert titled “Trip around the World” was held at the opening, featuring a Swiss accordion player and Egyptian musicians playing the violin, kanoon, double bass and percussion.
