Switzerland’s contribution to the humanitarian response in Gaza

Cairo, Egypt –  In response to the dramatic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, Switzerland has allocated an additional CHF 90 million (close to USD 102 million) in humanitarian aid: CHF 81 million is earmarked for the Occupied Palestinian Territory and CHF 9 million for the region, including Egypt.

The funds are being disbursed based on the needs of the following organizations:

  • International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
  • National Societies in the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)
  • UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)
  • United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
  • World Food Programme (WFP)
  • World Health Organization (WHO)
  • Terre des Hommes Switzerland
  • Médecins du Monde Switzerland

In Egypt, Switzerland supports the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) through a contribution of CHF 4 million to the regional appeal of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) that aims at addressing the regional consequences of the Gaza war in neighboring countries.

Switzerland’s commitments will address basic humanitarian needs such as water, food, and medical care for the citizens of Gaza.

Switzerland has also reallocated funds in Egypt to support the relief efforts of the ERC and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Furthermore, Switzerland supported the resolution aimed at increasing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip adopted by the UN Security Council on 22.12.2023.
