Two Swiss projects named SDG Leaders in October 2022

Local news, 19.10.2022

The United Nations in Mongolia, in partnership with other key stakeholders, organized SDG Open Day, an outdoor public event held to engage with the public and raise awareness of the SDGs and to acknowledge and promote best practices, individual initiatives, and positive changes created by stakeholders, including the private sector, development partners, and local communities that contribute to the SDGs.

By showcasing their achievements and solutions for sustainability, the event also aimed to inspire and mobilize more individual and collective actions and commitment to achieving the SDGs and Vision 2050.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets, signed onto by leaders around the world, including Mongolia, represent aspirations to end poverty and hunger, protect the planet, promote justice, eliminate disparities and inequalities, and bring prosperity by 2030. Mongolia is one of the early adopters of the SDGs.

In line with these global goals, the Parliament of Mongolia adopted a long-term development strategy for Mongolia, Vision 2050, a strategic policy document on the country’s development priorities in the years to come. Achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a milestone in achieving Vision 2050.

To achieve this agenda, Mongolia must—like all other countries worldwide, including Switzerland—take more ambitious action to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs. SDGs are everyone’s business. These goals are to be achieved by all concerned, and collective efforts by all stakeholders, including the government, development partners, the private sector, academia, civil society, and last but not least, by individual citizens, are required.

UN Mongolia and its key partners organized SDG Open Day at Sukhbaatar Square to engage with Mongolian communities, especially the private and public sectors in Ulaanbaatar. The main objective was to acknowledge and promote best practices and positive changes created by SDG stakeholders.

A total of 120 organizations, including those leading government, non-government, private sector, educational, and international projects in Mongolia, gathered to present the achievements and results of their activities and initiatives focused on the SDGs. The SDG Action Awards were presented to domestic organizations, companies, and NGOs for their actions for sustainable development. ITCNE NGO was named the SDG Champion among education organizations for their Education for Sustainable Development and eco-schools movement, and the National Federation of Pasture User Groups NGO received the SDG Champion award among civil society organizations for its Green Gold rangeland program. We are very proud being a part of the initiatives led by these two partner organizations. We would like to congratulate both organizations and their teams. Excellent job!
