In autumn 2012, the Federal Council appointed Michael Gerber as Ambassador and Special Envoy to represent the Swiss Confederation in the international negotiations and bodies with respect to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. On the 14th of January 2015, the Federal Council handed him the mandate to head the Swiss delegations in the intergovernmental negotiations at the UN on the 2030 Agenda, as well as on its financing and implementation in the framework of the Addis Ababa Action Agenda. His mandate ended in Summer 2018 with the presentation of Switzerland’s country report on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF).
Previously Michael Gerber has headed the Policy and Analysis Division within the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and was responsible for Switzerland's development programmes in various countries.
Michael Gerber (born 1971) studied political philosophy, history and ethnology at the University of Bern, and completed the post-graduate certificate programme in development studies (NADEL) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich. He worked for the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) from 2002 to 2018.
