On June 27th, a new cooperation under the Sino-Swiss Low Carbon Cities (SSLCC) Project developed between the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Guangzhou, Capital city of Guangdong Province, was inaugurated in the presence of Ambassador Pio Wennubst, Vice Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The founding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on April 8th at the Great People’s Hall in Beijing, witnessed by the Chinese President Xi Jinping and Swiss President Johann Schneider-Amman.

Today, the exhibition ‘Cosmos Archaeology: Exploration in Time and Space’, jointly organized by the Embassy of Switzerland in China, the National Museum of China (NMC), and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), with support from the Department of Astronomy and the Academy of Arts & Design at Tsinghua University, was officially unveiled at the NMC. On May 22, the Beijing Dangdai Art Fair opened at the China National Agricultural Exhibition Centre, bringing together 121 art institutions from 32 cities across 12 countries. The head of Switzerland's Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Ignazio Cassis, visited the People's Republic of China on 24 and 25 April 2025. His visit marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Switzerland established official relations with China in 1950, making it one of the first European countries to do so. In addition to an official meeting with China's foreign minister, Wang Yi, Mr Cassis' visit focused on efforts to modernise the free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries in order to improve market access for Swiss companies.

The 18th round of the human rights dialogue between Switzerland and China took place in Beijing on 20 and 21 February 2025. The talks, which were held in confidence, allowed for a direct, critical and open exchange on international and national human rights issues. The Swiss delegation was led by Christine Löw, deputy head of the FDFA's Peace and Human Rights Division. Switzerland is firmly committed to the universal protection of human rights – in China and elsewhere in the world. To this end, it uses a number of multilateral and bilateral instrments, including the human rights dialogue.

In exactly one year from today, on 10 December 2018, Switzerland together with the international community will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which 70 years after its adoption, remains of unequivocal relevance. Human rights are a necessity for our societies, an invaluable ingredient to boost peace and stability and to foster sustainable development. Human rights are at the heart of the values represented by Switzerland and its political model, which is founded on the principles of democracy, non-discrimination, gender equality, peaceful coexistence, and mutual respect among people having different religious, linguistic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Switzerland calls upon its partners to join it in making this Human Rights Day 2017 a day of unequivocal relevance for the promotion and the protection of human rights.
On the occasion of the 21st edition of "the Francophonie Festival" in China, Switzerland will present cultural events in March in several Chinese cities: musicians, singers, writers, sculptors, painters, engravers, academics, filmmakers, photographers and architects, the Swiss Francophone will be on the go throughout China. During the whole month of March, Switzerland offers a wide programme of activities allowing the Chinese audience to discover the richness and the diversity of its contemporary cultural scene.
The People’s Bank of China (PBC) has decided to authorise the Zurich branch of the China Construction Bank (CCB Zurich branch) to be the renminbi clearing bank in Switzerland as of today. With this authorisation, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Swiss National Bank (SNB) and the PBC on the establishment of renminbi clearing arrangements in Switzerland, signed in January 2015, has now been successfully implemented.
